My Face. My Skin Story [Part 1]

[By Small C]

I have been sharing about my travel, shopping haul and skincare / cosmetic reviews. I guess, I should share something personal and maybe, my own story. So, here it is, a series called “My Face. My Skin Story”.

During Childhood…

I had pretty sensitive skin since young. My skin turned red easily just few minutes under the sun and I get tanned or burnt easily. When I go for a swim, it just takes less than 30mins for me to be as red as a crab / lobster and another 30mins or so to get sunburn. I was never that “fair” lady like Big C and my brother. They hardly get tanned even if sunburn, their skin also won’t get tan. While for me, even with sunscreen, I can still get a little tan and  I can take up to months to get one or two shades lighter.

During Puberty…

It was during puberty period, my skin condition worsen a little, due to hormones, I guess. I always have severe cramps, diarrhoea and also vomiting non-stop, and sometimes the cramps were so bad that I cannot concentrate in anything and got sent home by school. And every time when my period is round the corner, pimples will starts popping up. At this time, my skin was still quite tanned as I still visit the pool very frequently.

Through out my teenage, I never use any skincare products. All I did was, washing my face with tap water / sometimes rice water, and the skin was perfectly fine. Although, my skin is still very sensitive to the sun.

Fast forward to age 20-21…

For the past 5 years, I stopped going to the pool or do any activities out in strong sun, from skin tone TAN to FAIR. YES! I am finally FAIR so fair that everyone around me were going like, “WOW! You are so fair!!”

However, thing started to change. This was the year that my skin condition went haywire. As I was into my final year in Polytechnic and had to do our major year project. My world just simply revolved around school and nothing else. My lifestyle changed. My usual bedtime was 9pm and during this year, getting to sleep for 4 hours a day is considered blessing.

My whole 4 months plus of school life were full of sleepless night and stress level was at top mode, pimples and acne just simply don’t go away. Old ones recovered new ones formed, it was just like a cycle. And my itchy hands just went squeezing the pimples and causing a lot of scars and sometimes, these acne recovered they left me with hyper-pigmentation. And I was still using the old school method, washing my face with rice water hoping that it can turned into blessing water to cure my face.

Year 2013-2014…

My skin condition was still as bad as 2 years ago. And my mom decided to bring me for facial treatment, after a few sessions, my skin got better and even better. Even when I started wearing make up, my skin was still good. And given the rave of Korean Skincare, I started to use skincare too. I just get breakouts whenever my period is here. Otherwise, it was perfect. However, things changed….

Fast forward to 2016…

I stopped going for my facial treatments as the therapist was quite hard to reach as she was doing it at her own free time. And over the months, I did used products that not suitable for me. Around August 2016, I did a switch in my moisturizer cream, and guess, it was a total wrong decision.

After changing to this cream, my skin didn’t get any better but worsen. The long gone acne were back.

Now…

And since then, until today, my skin was still in a pretty bad condition that I cannot help but turned to make up to conceal my imperfect skin. Yup, I relied on make up a lot that I developed a love and hate relationship with make up. (You can read about it here: My LOVE-HATE relationship with Cosmetics)

Nobody is going to care about how you look…

Ya, right. Whenever I walked into Watsons or Guardian, the salesperson of certain skincare brands will become so “helpful” and started to push their products to me and said that they can guarantee will improve my skin condition. But, I never buy their words.

As everyone has different skin types and there is no product that can suit all skin types and solve all skin problems too. And it is not easy for people who have acne-prone skin or sensitive skin to find that perfect product that will save their day.

As I’ve been through all these, I decided to do this blog with Big C. I only share / introduce to you guys the products that I bought and have been using for 2-3 months or when I emptied them. As I know how frustrating it is to buy products that is not suitable for my skin type. So I hope you guys can pardon me for my slow updates on product review and my posts.

So yup, I know this is a long post. I hope I didn’t bored you guys up.  Till the next post…
